‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition’ Launching November 5 on Mac

Nearly one year after Feral Interactive announced that "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" would be coming to macOS sometime in 2019, the company today provided a launch date for the game: November 5. On this date, the game will also launch on Linux.

Feral's port of the game for macOS is the Definitive Edition, including all seven DLC challenge tombs, along with all downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills. Otherwise, the base game will be the same seen within the original release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which first launched on consoles in September 2018.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third game in the rebooted series, following Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, telling the story of Lara Croft's quest to prevent the Mayan apocalypse. The game primarily takes place in Central and South America, including areas like Cozumel and the Amazon, all on Lara's quest to discover the hidden city of Paititi.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be priced at $59.99 on Feral's store when it launches on November 5.

‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’ Coming to macOS in 2019

Feral Interactive today announced that the third game in the rebooted Tomb Raider series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will be coming to macOS and Linux computers in 2019. As usual with Feral's early announcements, no specific date was given for the game's release on macOS.

The game originally launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC in September 2018, published by Square Enix and developed by Eidos-Montréal. Shadow of the Tomb Raider picks up the story from the 2015 entry in the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and follows Lara Croft as she hunts for the legendary hidden city of Paititi in the jungles of South America, battling the Trinity organization and attempting to prevent a Mayan apocalypse.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will follow Rise of the Tomb Raider's appearance on macOS earlier this spring, in the form of the "20 Year Celebration" edition of the game that included all DLC content. Feral announced Rise of the Tomb Raider would be coming to Mac in February and then launched it in April, so we should hear more about a specific launch date for Shadow of the Tomb Raider after the new year.

Feral also ported the original rebooted game, simply titled Tomb Raider, to macOS and Linux computers.

Feral Debuts Support for External GPUs With ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration’

Mac and Linux video game publisher Feral Interactive today announced that it will begin supporting external GPUs, beginning with the recently-launched Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. Apple first launched support for external graphics processors in March with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4.

The addition allows users to connect an eGPU to their Mac through Thunderbolt 3, powering additional performance for better gaming graphics, VR content creation, professional apps, and more. Feral notes that players can use an eGPU with "any Mac supported by Rise of the Tomb Raider," but there could still be limitations due to the power of the Mac's CPU, despite the boost from the eGPU.

As of now, Rise of the Tomb Raider is the only Feral game confirmed with eGPU support, but the company says that it is working to introduce eGPU support to more of its games. Announcements for these titles will take place on Feral's social network and news feeds, which anyone interested can find on today's FAQ page.

Feral first revealed Rise of the Tomb Raider would be coming to Mac back in February, and then it launched in April. The game is a port of the console game from 2016, and is the second part of the rebooted franchise that began with Tomb Raider in 2013.

‘Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration’ Coming to Mac This Spring

Just over two years after "Rise of the Tomb Raider" first launched as an Xbox console exclusive in late 2015, Feral Interactive today announced that it will bring the definitive edition of the game to macOS and Linux this spring. Called "Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration," the Mac game will be a port of the same title that launched for PS4 in late 2016, bundling the base game with all special add-on and DLC pack content.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is a sequel to the series reboot "Tomb Raider" from 2013, letting players control Lara Croft in a new adventure as she seeks an artifact rumored to grant immortality and believed to be located in the lost city of Kitezh. Players control Lara through what developer Crystal Dynamics refers to as "guerrilla combat," configuring Lara's loadout with new tools and weapons, including customizable items like poisoned arrows and explosive shotgun shells.

Downloadable content found in the 20 Year Celebration edition includes add-ons like Blood Ties and Baba Yaga, two standalone stories that place Lara at home in Croft Manor and in the Siberian wilderness, respectively. There are also a pair of horde mode levels set in the same locations, called Lara's Nightmare and Cold Darkness Awakened, where players fight off waves of infected enemies.

Other modes and add-on content includes:
Endurance Mode: Two players team up to survive the dangerous forest while plundering crypts for relics.
Extreme Survivor Challenge: In the hardest difficulty setting for the main campaign, players overcome difficult limits of save points, resources, ammunition, and health.
5 Classic Skins: Nostalgic skins from Tomb Raider history: Croft Manor, Tomb Raider II, Tomb Raider II Bomber Jacket, Chronicles Catsuit, and Angel of Darkness.
12 Outfits: Ancient Vanguard (Byzantine-era chain mail), Apex Predator (bear fur, animal claws, and warpaint), Shadowrunner (tactical vest and watch cap), and the reimagined Antarctica outfit inspired by Tomb Raider III.
Expedition Cards: Players use cards in Expedition Mode to boost their score, modify their abilities, and apply cosmetic effects like Big Head Enemies.
Feral Interactive has not yet announced specific Mac system requirements, a launch date, or how much the game will be, but said this information "will be revealed closer to release" in the spring. Currently, the PS4 version of "Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration" is priced around $30.
