Apple Begins Selling Refurbished 2020 MacBook Air Models

Apple has begun selling certified refurbished 2020 MacBook Air models through its online store in the United States for the first time, with prices discounted by approximately 15 percent compared to brand new models.

Apple says refurbished MacBook Air models are thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned, and repackaged with a USB-C power adapter and USB-C cable in the box. In our view, a refurbished MacBook Air is virtually indistinguishable from a brand new model, so this represents a good opportunity for savings directly from Apple.

Keep in mind that third-party resellers frequently offer better deals than Apple's refurbished prices, so be sure to monitor our deals roundup.

A refurbished MacBook Air comes with Apple's standard one-year warranty effective on the date the notebook is delivered. The warranty can be extended to three years from the refurbished purchase date with AppleCare+ at a cost of $249 for the MacBook Air.

Apple Begins Selling Refurbished iPhone XR Models

Apple today began selling certified refurbished iPhone XR models in select colors and capacities for the first time in the United States. Refurbished iPhone XR models are priced at a roughly 16 percent discount compared to current pricing on brand-new units, knocking $100–120 off of the regular price.

In addition to the 64GB and 128GB capacities matching current brand-new ‌iPhone XR‌ models, refurbished units are also available with 256GB of storage, although currently only in black. The ‌iPhone XR‌ was initially offered in all three capacities at its launch in 2018, but when the ‌iPhone XR‌ moved down the lineup as a lower-priced option in September 2019, the 256GB models were discontinued.

  • 64GB: $499, down from current $599 price and $749 launch price

  • 128GB: $539, down from current $649 price and $799 launch price

  • 256GB: $629, down from former $749 clearance price and $899 launch price

All current refurbished ‌iPhone XR‌ models come carrier unlocked and without a SIM, so they can be activated with any carrier you choose.

Apple says all refurbished iPhone models are thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned, and repackaged with a new white box and all manuals and accessories. Apple also installs a new battery and replaces the outer shell, making it nearly impossible to distinguish between a refurbished and brand new ‌iPhone‌.

Any refurbished ‌iPhone‌ model comes with Apple's standard one-year warranty effective on the date the device is delivered, which can be extended with AppleCare+ at a flat rate of $149 or for $7.99 per month on the ‌iPhone XR‌. Upgraded ‌AppleCare‌+ with theft and loss coverage is available for a flat rate of $249 or for $12.99 per month.

Apple Adds Raft of 2018 Mac mini Models to Refurb Store

Apple has just added multiple 2018 Mac mini models to its US online refurb store, offering customers potentially hundreds of dollars in savings on a variety of configurations.

Last month, Apple updated the ‌Mac mini‌, but the only change it made was that standard configurations now come with double the storage capacity for the same price.

Prior to that, Apple's 2018 ‌Mac mini‌ refresh came after more than four years without an update. So if you're in the market for ‌Mac mini‌, the refurb store is definitely worth checking out first.

For example, a refurbished ‌Mac mini‌ with 3.0GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage can be had for $1,099, bagging you twice the amount of RAM for the same price as the base 2019 model offering otherwise identical specs. Doubling the memory on the 2019 base configuration costs $200 during checkout, so this is a great saving.

Elsewhere, refurbished pricing on 2018 ‌Mac mini‌ models starts at $599 for a ‌Mac mini‌ with 3.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i3, 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, offering a saving of $100 on the original price.

Apple says certified refurbished ‌MacBook Air‌ and ‌‌Mac mini‌‌ models are thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned, and repackaged, with all manuals and cables included in the box. In our view, a refurbished Mac is virtually indistinguishable from a brand new one. They're also backed by Apple's standard one-year warranty.

A refurbished Mac's warranty can be extended to three years from the refurbished purchase date with AppleCare+.
